Privacy & Confidentiality
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist or counselor, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.
Exceptions include:
Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
If a client intends to harm himself or herself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law in order to ensure their safety.
I take my responsibility to your privacy very seriously. Unless you appear to be in danger, or a threat to others, I will not disclose what we discuss to anyone - including spouses, partners, and family members - without your express permission.
I understand that the decision to participate in counseling can be nerve-wracking, and believe that our best work will be done when you are able to feel most comfortable. If you have questions re: privacy or other confidentiality concerns, please do not hesitate to ask.
Privacy & Telehealth
I make every effort to protect your privacy when we are meeting online by utilizing platforms that are HIPAA-compliant: Zoom for health care providers, SimplePractice, and Spruce. My telehealth office is also sound-secure. Please consider your own location and privacy during our online sessions.
While I use text messaging to manage scheduling requests and other practical issues, due to privacy and other concerns, I cannot answer clinical questions nor provide clinical guidance via text message. Please do not include confidential information in text and email communication to my office.
